When you reflect upon the various Ages of man from caveman days until now you have to ask what exactly is this Age that we are living in today? The Space Age fizzled. Noone went very far into space but at least we got Star Trek out of it! But what is this Age we are in today? . I think most people would agree thatthat we would find broad concensus if we just admitted that we are in the Hydrocarbon Fuel Age. Oil is in everything everywhere…well, petroleum is. And Earth’s finances and its hostilities trace back to its source of energy, so is its environmental meltdown, its horrors from pharma corruption (the pills are made from petroleum!). I could continue but I think that we have today pretty well nailed. How about we look in to the crystal ball and presage tomorrow? The post-Hydrocarbon Fuel Age will be incomparable to people alive today. Centralized power plants spewing smoke and toxins will be dumped in the landfill of history: the power grid will be dismantled. The grid will gradually drop off and disappear during the transition to distributed Free Energy systems, which as rapid and with comparable drama as the conversion to the personal computer/Internet era that began in the 70’s. Pollution which stem back to hydrocarbon-fuel engine systems will be a thing of yesterday. In a world of effectively free energy (no significant recurring costs for the energy), all people will have some degree of wealth, at least not poverty, . Populations will be empowered with much greater opportunity to be self reliant since they will be unchained from central hubs from the corporations that today rule energy use. (Governments will try to continue to do what governments have done since time immemorial, they will try to tax and control the use of energy, but they they won’t be able to—as they have failed so far in trying to tax the Internet.) It will be possible to build self-contained dwellings and communities anywhere that construction materials can be brought in—deep in the forests, on the top of mountains, on uncharted islands, on the surface of bodies of water, and even deep down on ocean or lake floors! There will be no geographic localization of fuel resources (such as in the Middle East today), so the hostilities over oil supplies will vanish with a key underlying cause. Inexpensive desalination and water pumping will make deserts bloom. It will be extremely inexpensive to produce clean, potable water pretty much any place. Agriculture will profoundly change, as New Energy makes fertilizer, light, heat, cooling and shelter from insect pests available anywhere:. Through advances already discovered in the field, it will be possible to remediate existing nuclear waste— reduce it to non-radioactive forms. And, astonishing but almost certain to happen, it will be possible to manufacture rare elements cheaply through reactions— yes, an age of “modern alchemy” will emerge. Maybe it will be called the Age of Alchemy! I know, it sounds pretty “utopian”. When does this all begin? It has already started. Recent developments applied to 90 year old knowledge have facilitated the creation of a hydrogen/gasoline hybrid engine!
