Safety and Baby Clohtes

When you bring a baby into this world, that child is completely dependent on you. It is important to remember the responsibility that you take on when you have a child.

There a lot of responsibilities that many parents do not even realize will come with a child. Knowing some of the hidden responsibilities will help you to better cope with them as they come along.

Obviously you will have to clothe your child. But have you ever thought about the safety issues that come along with buying your child’s clothes?

Buying clothes that adequately covers and protects your child is usually not that hard to figure out. It is also not hard to figure out that your child will require different clothes in the winter than he or she will need in the summer.

These are all issues that the average adults can logically assume. Lets delve into some of the issues that may not be so obvious to the majority of parents.

It is easy to only concentrate on the way clothes look. When you are excited for a new baby you often times get excited about the adorable outfits you will be able to dress him or her in.

When you first bring your baby home from the hospital he or she will spend the majority of time sleeping. Buying simple clothes that keep your baby warm and comfortable are the best option.

This wardrobe will basically include diapers, sleepers or gowns, undershirts, bibs, a sweater, caps, socks or booties, blankets and crib sheets. For optimum comfort these are the best clothes to provide for your child.

It is very clear that the majority of infant clothing is made to appeal to adults. Realizing that comfort and appeal do not always go hand in will help you shop smarter.

A baby’s skin is very tender, soft and sensitive. Finding clothes that are made of soft, lightweight cotton fabrics are usually the best materials for your baby’s clothes.

You can figure out what kind of material the clothing is by taking the time to look at the clothing label. This simple step can help your baby be more comfortable and help you find clothes that are easy to take care of.

Cotton is usually a very safe bet for baby clothing. The cotton is absorbent but it also breathes; this allows body moisture to evaporate.

Jersey knit clothing is another excellent option. This clothing will keep its shape, shrink minimally and will never need to be ironed.

Cotton/polyester blends will be comfortable and they will also be resilient. These clothes will be very low maintenance.

If you do buy clothes that are made of synthetic fibers such as nylon, polyester or acrylic it is advisable to put a cotton undershirt on your baby.

Although they will not drastically hurt your baby, these materials are much less comfortable and may give your child a rash.

Finding garments that hang from the shoulders can be very beneficial. The support that the clothes get from the shoulders will allow the garment some give, while still keeping the child adequately covered.

Raglan or kimono sleeves will allow your child to move comfortably and will also help you easily put the sleeves on your child.

If your child’s sleeves are too tight they can cause frustration for you as you try to fit them on and discomfort for your child.

Clothes with easy to fasten necks and other openings will allow you ease of access for changing your baby’s diaper. You will have to change your baby’s diaper in the middle of the night and you are going to want to be able to do this easily.

Clothes that have a minimal amount of seams are the most desirable. The seams will put more pressure on your baby’s skin when he or she lays on them and may make laying down in certain positions very uncomfortable.

Non-binding waistlines are very important. You will have to take your child’s pants on and off many times during the day to change his or her diaper and you do not want this to be a difficult process.

The sleepwear that you choose should be snug, but not too tight and not too loose. It is critical that your child is comfortable and able to stay warm but is not in clothes that suffocate.

Having a child opens the doors to a whole new world. The sudden responsibility for another human being’s life can be overwhelming but if you are well prepared you can be a successful parent.
